Week of 9/21-9/25

Weekly updates:

  • Monday:

    • Looked over the assignments for this week

    • Decided that cosmology would be the focus of my research in astronomy for this year

  • Tuesday:

    • Was introduced to the assignments due this week in class

    • Began my research for the topic proposal assignment.

  • Wednesday:

    • Worked on the introduction for my topic proposal.

    • Brainstormed and researched how the qualities of my personality type will help me in the future as an astronomer

  • Thursday:

    • Finished my first draft of the topic proposal in class.

    • Revised it in the evening and changed the wordings.

  • Friday:

    • Re-checked my topic proposal assignment for grammatical errors and then shortened it to fit in one page.

    • Began working on my blog and reflection for this week.

 

Reflection:

The topic proposal assignment I completed this week further solidified my choice to work in the astronomy field. By completing this assignment, I realized that many of my qualities can be useful to me in the future working as an astronomer. This week is the first time we had to do a blog, and I will work on improving my professional writing skills through practice in future blogs. As the semester furthers, I realized I need to begin doing research on my own about this career and work on strengthening some of my skills along the way. An example of the skill I will be working on is programming and learning new technical terms related to telescopes.

Week of 9/28-10/02

Weekly updates:

  • Monday: 

    • Was introduced to the business symposium and how the interviews would work in class

  • Tuesday: 

    • Answered the mock interview questions

    • Began practising my responses for the interview

  • Wednesday:

    • Had practice interviews with peers in class

    • Fixed up some of my answers.

  • Thursday:

    • Worked on my transitions between topics for the answer and improving the overall flow

  • Friday:

    • Had another practice interview session during class while dressing up professionally 

    • Will be perfecting my interview responses over the weekend

    • Began working on the weekly blog.

 

Reflection:

I was nervous about the Business Symposium when we first were introduced to it this week because it was the first time we would be interviewed by professionals this year. Throughout the week, as we continued to practice I gained a little bit more confidence each time, and by the end of the week, I was less nervous. Although it didn't make me completely confident, I will continue to practice over the weekend to perfect my responses and will be as ready as I can for our interviews on Tuesday.
